Living in the present is honestly one of the hardest things to do in my life up until recently. I was raised by a father who was always "looking over the hedge" to avoid/counteract anything negative the future may hold. I inherited this way of living until very recently. I would constantly be worrying about what others may say, may do, how an event might play out, how an interview could turn out negative, and on and on. This put me in a constant state of fear, complacency, and feeling of lacking. Now, I live in the present by "running" constant checks throughout my day in the way of asking myself "how are you?" when I realize I am drifting away or in a negative vibration. These self check-ins bring my mind back into the present and help me to change my emotions/mindset if leaning towards a negative vibration to thoroughly enjoy the present situation/event/being I am in. Another KEY factor to living in the present (and it takes some time to implement it daily, hourly, or even every minute) is giving gratitude to the things and events that have happened, are currently happening, and will happen in your life! Gratitude for even the smallest things pushes my mind to go above and beyond to give thanks for more and more in my life that exists in the present! Being thankful for past/future events and people is also a great habit, but being thankful for what you have now holds my mind to enjoying the present and what is in front of me.
