How do you plan to realize your goals? Will you do it alone or in a vacuum, or will you do it with the assistance of others? Fulfilling your goals is hard enough. Why wouldn't you welcome all the help you could get? Here are three suggestions for using the dreams of others to fulfill your goals: 1. Ask - It seems simple, but people rarely ask their colleagues and associates about their dreams. Asking people who are successful or whom you admire what their dreams are is an easy way to see if they may fit with your goals. 2. Suggest - If you find someone whose dreams align with your goals, suggest ways you can work together for your mutual benefit. Make sure the proposal is equitable to both sides. 3. Act - Many people develop their plans but fail to execute the steps necessary to bring their goals to fruition. This will cause the person who could potentially help you, not to want to work with you. Also, make sure there is a fair distribution of work and one person isn't putting forth all the effort while the other person reaps the rewards. You will be surprised how many people will be willing to work with you for a mutually agreed upon realization of your dreams and goals. Nothing in life is ever accomplished without the help and input of others. Please watch the video below to learn the story of two famous people who joined forces to realize their dreams. Also, please leave me a comment about how you would go about helping others realize their dreams and your goals at the same time. What was the best piece of advice you ever received when you were young?
With the over six hundred podcast episodes I have been a guest, one of the questions I am often asked is, "What's the one piece of advice you would give...?" I'm not sure there is a single piece of advice that would encompass every scenario for every person at every time. Like so many things in life, it's not getting the right advice as much as it is getting the right advice at the right time. Much of life is about proper timing. Of the many things I've learned over my life and more recently as part of my cancer journey, here are the remaining three of the six pieces of advice I'd give to people just starting out in life: 4. Fail often - Failing doesn't sound like a piece of advice that would be good for young people. However, it's not about the failure, it's about the lessons you learn from that failure that you can apply to your next endeavor. Failure means you're trying. 5. Don't compare yourself to others - Everyone has their unique life path. Your journey is not your neighbor's journey. Stay in your lane, be motivated, and develop the discipline to implement good habits. Focus on your track and be happy, not jealous, of what others have. 6. Dream big - Nobody ever hits a home run without swinging the bat. Low expectations of yourself achieve low results. Reach for the heavens and even if you fail, you'll still be among the stars. Please leave me a comment about your thoughts regarding the best piece of advice you were given when you were young.
