2. Capital can do nothing without brains to direct it. 3. No general can fight his battles alone. He must depend on his lieutenants, and his success depends upon his ability to secure the right man for the right place. 4. There is no such thing as luck. 5. Most men talk too much. Much of my success has been due to keeping my mouth shut. 6. The young man who wants to marry happily should pick out a good mother and marry one of her daughters - any one will do. J. “I have self-doubt. I have insecurity. I have fear of failure…We all have self-doubt. You don’t deny it, but you also don’t capitulate to it. You embrace it.” - Kobe Bryant
Are you embracing your self-doubt and using it to make you better? “The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn.” - Gloria Steinem
Can you unlearn what you already know?
“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” - Helen Keller
What are you experiencing that is strengthening your soul? "Life isn't a sprint, but a long, steady climb. You can't run far uphill without stopping to sit down. Some people rush at a thing with a whoop and use up all their wind. And when they're rested and have got it back, they whoop again and start in a new direction. They mistake intention for determination, and after they have told you what they propose to do and get right up to doing it, they simply peter out.
Quiet, steady, persistent work is what gets us somewhere in life. More of us should emulate Grover Cleveland Alexander, one of the greatest pitchers of all time. He grew up on a farm and wanted to play professional baseball. Between chores, he would throw apples, stones - anything he could get his hands on to sharpen his accuracy. When he was able to acquire a few baseballs, he nailed a catcher's glove to the outside of a chicken coop and threw at it for hours. He got so he could hit the mitt nine times out of ten. Later, when he became a star, sportswriters went into rapture about the brilliance of his pitching. But no one knew better than Grover Cleveland Alexander that back of his amazing pitching was the patient drudgery of throwing at that old catcher's mitt nailed to a chicken coop." How bad do you want to reach your goals? “Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of the men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory.” - George S. Patton
Where is your spirit leading? “You earn your fairness.” - Don Showalter
How fair are you to yourself and others? Don’t Quit
By Edgar A. Guest When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low but the debts are high, And you want to smile but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit... Rest if you must, but don't you quit! Life is weird with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many failures turn about When we might have won had we stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow... You may succeed with another blow. Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor’s cup; And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out... And you can never tell how close you are It may be near when it seems so far. So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit. “Remember that a person lives only in the present, in this fleeting instant; all the rest of their life is either past and gone, or not yet revealed.” - Marcus Aurelius
Are you living in your moment? “A man is but a product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.” - Mahatma Gandhi
