What does it mean to be a resilient person?
Resilience is defined as being able to handle difficult things and events and continue to move forward. Another way to look at resilience is how we adapt to the pain an difficulty that everyone experiences in life. But how do we become resilient? Here are 6 Keys To Being Resilient from the author of the book, Do Hard Things, Steve Magness: 1. Embrace Reality - Resilience is being able to face your fears and challenges and realistically look at how you can remain optimistic. 2. Find Meaning In Adversity - Resilient people are able to find meaning and purpose in their struggle. They are able to reframe the challenge to see how they can learn, grow, and benefit from the pain. 3. Be Proactive Instead of Reactive - Instead of waiting for challenges to come their way and then react to those difficulties, resilient people work to increase their abilities and resources so they can handle the problems and find opportunities in their struggles. 4. Build a Strong and Diverse Community - We don't live or work in a vacuum. If the COVID pandemic taught us anything, it's that we need other people in our life. Being connected with others gives us the support to deal with the challenges in our life. 5. Develop Emotional Flexibility - Being emotionally flexible allows us to handle the ups and downs of our emotions as they playout. It lets us handle the good and bad emotions we experience without getting too high or too low. 6. Accept Your Doubts So You Can Deal With Them - Adversity tends to make us doubt our knowledge and abilities. Resilient people understand that we all doubt ourselves from time to time, but we must face those doubts and find meaning in our struggle. Meaning is the glue that holds the mind together allowing us to respond and perform. Please leave me a comment about other ideas or tactics that you use to be more resilient.
