The Gift of Yourself Is True Giving
The perfect gift is not found on any shelf or online store. It cannot be pre-ordered. It cannot be purchased. It does not ship to your door. True giving is offering someone a part of YOURSELF that you cannot put inside a box! Gift of your time. Gift of your love. Gift of your help. Gift of your affection. Gift of your support. Gift of your inner strength. Gift of your positivity. Gift of your listening ear. Gift of your inspiration. Gift of your sense of humor. Gift of your warmth. Gift of your security. Gift of your presence. From the article: The Gift of Yourself Is True Giving by Teresa Holden, M.A. – December 19, 2018

“It appears we need a wall to butt up against to create a proper ego and strong identity. Such a foil is the way we internalize our own deeper values, educate our feeling function, and dethrone our own narcissism.” - Fr. Richard Rohr
What impediment is helping you develop a proper identity? How often do you have that feeling of being anxious or down? We all have days from time to time when we feel glum and dejected. But how do we get out of that funk when it presents itself in our life? What makes you happy? Would it be more money, living in a nicer house, or driving a nicer car? Maybe it would be having better health, a more attentive family, or friends that brought a little less drama to the relationship. Whatever material things you believe would make you happy, understand that genuine happiness is a state of mind. Nothing external will provide you with true happiness and nothing you don't possess should prevent you from being happy. To find happiness (and we all deserve to be happy) focus on what you see when you look around. If you expect to see the worst in people and circumstances, that's most likely what you will observe, but if you expect to see the best in people and circumstances, you will tend to see that as well. We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are. Our preconceived thoughts and ideas can dramatically alter the way we perceive the world. Take a few minutes and watch this video that tells the story of a king who consulted the court sage as to how he should rid himself of his anxiety and depression. Please leave me a message about the things that make you happy and what you expect to see when looking at others. “There is no accounting for the way that simple joy could shake you.” - Toni Morrison

“It’s up to you to make your life. Take what you have and stack it up like a tower of teetering blocks. Build your dream around that.” - Cheryl Strayed
How are you building your life on ambiguity and uncertainty? "There are no small parts, only small actors." Those words were spoken by Konstantin Stanislavski, the man considered to be the father of modern acting. Have you ever had a job that you thought was beneath you? Did you do the best at that job, or did you give it a half-hearted effort because you thought you deserved better? There is a natural tendency to not give our best to things we don't enjoy or that aren't really of interest to us. But is that the way we should approach boring, mundane work? No, we should give our best at whatever we spend our time doing. William Crawford was a humble, unassuming janitor for the cadets at the United States Air Force Academy. What the cadets didn't know about this modest man who polished their floors, scrubbed their toilets, and emptied their trash, was that he had received our nation's highest military award, the Medal of Honor. Here was a hero who won the Medal of Honor for his actions during World War II, who didn't believe cleaning up after others was a job that was beneath him. Watch this video and learn about someone else who gave her best to a menial job while waiting for the right opportunity to come along. Also, please leave me a comment below about a time in your life when you did or didn't give your best to a job you believed wasn't on par with your skill set. “We sense more and more that Someone Else is for us, more than we are for ourselves. All we can do is get out of the way. We realize that this is a radically benevolent universe, and it is on our side.” - Fr. Richard Rohr
