“In nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense.” - Winston Churchill
How do you determine when you should give in? Is your motivation focused enough to lead you to your goals? Motivation is meaningless unless it is combined with the discipline and implementation of good habits. Negativity is the bane of motivation's existence. No matter how much motivation you have, taking a pessimistic view of the outcome will stifle any chance for achievement and contentment. While positivity, coupled with motivation, is the fuel that ignites the possibilities of any goal or dream. When I was coaching high school basketball, I only used running as a punishment if I heard two words from any of my players, "I can't" or "We can't." Why would you begin any task if you already decided in your mind that you weren't going to be successful at accomplishing that task? Check out the video below about the impact negativity and positivity have on your motivation. Also, please leave me a comment below about a time in your life when being positive or negative impacted the outcome of something you were trying to accomplish. “Suffering is part and parcel of extensive intelligence and a feeling heart.” - Fyodor Dostoevsky

“All the strength and force of people come from their faith in things unseen. They who believe are strong; they who doubt are weak. Strong convictions precede great actions.” - J. F. Clarke
How does your belief system make you stronger? What would you say are the hallmark qualities of a good leader? Owen Young a motivational writer, cites one reason that he believes prevents average business people from becoming leaders, their unwillingness to pay the price of responsibility. According to Young, three things make up the "price of responsibility:" 1. hard-driving continual work, 2. the courage to make difficult decisions, and 3. brutal honesty about your abilities. These are qualities Young believes every exceptional leader should possess. Do you agree with him? If you had to make a list of the attributes and behaviors that a good leader possesses, what would be on your list? The three men below are examples of people who paid the price of responsibility. Vincent Van Gough, one of the most recognized painters of all times, only sold one painting during his lifetime and yet is responsible for creating over 900 works of art. In the Bible, David showed tremendous courage in deciding to take on a bigger, stronger, and more powerful opponent in Goliath. His actions rallied an entire Army to follow him. Abolitionist and former slave, Frederick Douglass had to create and define his own moral, intellectual, and emotional infrastructure which he used to develop his unique leadership style. Watch the video below to learn about some things you can do to develop the qualities of an exceptional leader. Also, leave me a quote below about what attributes and qualities you believe a good leader should possess. “It is less important to redistribute wealth than it is to redistribute opportunity.” - Arthur H.
