“Contemplation is a very dangerous activity. It not only brings us face to face with God, it brings us face to face with the world, and then brings us face to face with the self; and then, of course, something must be done.” - Joan Chittister
How does contemplation bring you to the point of doing something?

“People do not seem to realize that their opinion of the world is also a confession of their character.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
How do your opinions reveal your character? Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to fit in but someone said or did something that made you uncomfortable? Did you handle it with courage and dignity or did you nervously laugh it off so everyone around realized you were a lightweight who wouldn't stand up for your convictions? Welcome to another edition of Sustainable Excellence Xtras! These periodic videos will tie into the principles I have outlined in my book, Sustainable Excellence, Ten Principles To Leading Your Uncommon and Extraordinary Life. In this video, we hear the story of how Regina Barreca used humor and self-confidence to gain respect from her colleagues after a senior member of her department told an off-color joke designed to test her moxie. Thanks for watching, and please check out the Sustainable Excellence Membership at: sustainableexcellencemembership.com “Make up your mind to act decidedly and take the consequences. No good is ever done in this world by hesitation.” - Thomas Huxley
How do the consequences prevent you from acting decidedly? Each Monday I put up a story or video about something that helps us toward success. This morning, I wanted to put up a video that helps us be more human. That shows the connection between the past and the present. In this video, we see a family deal with what many families experience every day because our population continues to age. Please watch this short video about the importance of respecting our elders and how that respect transfers over to our children. “In loneliness, the lonely one eats himself; in a crowd, the many eat him. Now choose.” - Friedrich Nietzsche
How do you prevent loneliness from consuming you? “When we live on the edge of anything, with respect and honor, we are in an auspicious and advantageous position. When we are both inside and outside, we are an ultimate challenge, possible reformer, and lasting invitation to a much larger world.” - Fr. Richard Rohr
How does living on the inside and outside make you an agent for change? Have you ever justified your improper behavior with the phrase, "Everybody does it?" Are the activities you perform each day serving as a model as to how other people should conduct themselves? Would you want your children to imitate the things they see you do every day or are your actions more of a, "Do as I say, not as I do?" Welcome to another edition of Sustainable Excellence Xtras! These periodic videos will tie into the principles I have outlined in my book, Sustainable Excellence, Ten Principles To Leading Your Uncommon and Extraordinary Life. In this video, we hear the story of a boy named Johnny who was exposed to immoral and unethical behavior his entire life by members of his family and other "responsible" adults, only to have that conduct justified by the fact that "Everybody does it." Watch the video to see what happens to Johnny when he is caught doing something that, "Everybody does."
