Defeat, My Defeat,
My solitude and my aloofness You are dearer to me than a thousand triumphs, And sweeter to my heart than all world-glory. Defeat, My Defeat, My self-knowledge and my defiance, Through you I know that I am yet young and swift of foot And not to be trapped by withering laurels, And the joy of being shunned and scorned. Defeat, My Defeat, My shining sword and shield, In your eyes I have read That to be enthroned is to be enslaved, And to be understood is to be leveled down, And to be grasped is but to reach one’s fullness And like a ripe fruit to fall and be consumed. Defeat, My Defeat, My bold companion, You shall hear my songs and my cries and my silences, And none but you shall speak to me of the beating of wings, And urging of seas, And of mountains that burn in the night, And you alone shall climb my steep and rocky soul. Defeat, My Defeat, My deathless courage, You and I shall laugh together with the storm, And together we shall dig graves for all that die in us, And we shall stand in the sun with a will, And we shall be dangerous. “If the world was blind, how many people would you impress?” - Unknown
What impression do you leave with people? “The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.” - Henry David Thoreau
What price are you willing to pay to reach your goals? I was recently interviewed on a great podcast called As We Get Older with Bob Pessemier. He's a former firefighter helping men learn how to navigate life better. You can check out and our podcast at :

Where does your energy to pursue your ‘why’ come from? Three Daily Habits of Very Successful People
As a society, we’ve gotten really good at giving excuses and readily accepting them. I’ve worked with some very dedicated, talented people who have not been able to achieve the results they should have. It wasn’t for lack of trying; it was lack of good habits. Your habits and patterns determine the direction of your life, so it should come as no surprise that successful people have successful habits. Here are three habits of very successful people: Number 1: Winners get out of bed early. Most CEO’s aren’t sleeping until noon and rolling into the office mid-afternoon. They get up early and attack the day. They say their routine starts at 5 or 6 am and using the two or three hours before they get into the office to focus and prepare for the day ahead. The people who are up and doing are the people who seize the opportunities first. Number 2: Be a daily goal setter and goal hitter. What you do today greatly affects whether or not you will achieve your future dreams. You have to intentionally design each and every day in a way that leads to getting things done that will maximize your results. Every night, or in those early morning hours you are using to prepare for the day ahead, set your daily goals. Number 3: Focus, focus, focus. Even if you set the goals, if you aren’t focused – and by that I mean working on what’s important now – you won’t be successful. Successful people always know what is important in the moment. They have the ability to stay focused when other people are unfocused. If you want to be successful, you’ve got to develop discipline not to let anything take your focus off the important things that will get results. Winning and success is quite often boring. It is doing the same successful things over and over again. But there is a scoreboard in life and business, and establishing repetitive habits that lead to effective performance is the key to winning results – and results are what matter. . From the article: 3 Daily Habits of Very Successful People by John Addison – July 25, 2016 – Success Magazine “The gates of thought, how slow and late they discover themselves! Yet when they appear, we see that they were always there, always open.” - Emerson
What do you spend your time thinking about each day? “The sense of humor is the oil of life’s engine. Without it, the machinery creaks and groans. No lot is so hard, no aspect of things is so grim, but it relaxes before a hearty laugh.” - G. S. Merriam
Can you laugh at yourself and the honest mistakes you make? “Every industrious person, in every lawful calling, is a useful person. And one principal reason why people are so often useless is that they neglect their own profession of calling, and divide and shift their attention among a multiplicity of objects and pursuits.” - Emerson
What things are you doing that will never lead to your purpose? "As you think, you travel; and as you love, you attract. You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you. You cannot escape the results of your thoughts, but you can endure and learn, can accept and be glad. You will realize the vision (not the idle wish), of your heart, be it base or beautiful, or a mixture of both, for you will always gravitate towards that which you, secretly, most love. Into your hands will be placed the exact results of your thoughts; you will receive that which you earn; no more, no less. Whatever your present environment may be, you will fall, remain or rise with your thoughts, your vision, your ideal. You will become as small as your controlling desire; as great as your dominant aspiration."
“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive, to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” - Marcus Aurelius
What thankfulness drives your day? “There are three constants in life…change, choice and principles.” - Stephen Covey
