“The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists.” - Japanese Proverb
How are you able to bend to resist the trials of your life? What does passion mean to you? Is it a driving force that motivates you to do the difficult things you love and enjoy? Maybe it's the desire that keeps you going long after you are mentally, physically, and emotionally depleted. But without action or activity, passion is useless. It would be like fueling your car with gas and leaving it in the garage. Why is being passionate important and what benefits do you receive from being enthusiastic about something? Being passionate has some significant advantage to our overall well-being. It can: 1. Help you strike a beneficial work-life balance - Being passionate about your job will help you master your work-life balance because work won't be something that drains and fatigues you. 2. Have fewer regrets - Imagine how energized you would feel if you followed all your goals and dreams. Being passionate allows you to bet on yourself, which will make you better off even if things don't work out as expected. 3. Modify your story - Passion provides you with the ability to better alter the narrative of your life because you won't be restricted by the negative affirmations you will be feeding yourself. In his book, The Mentor, author Jack Carew, outlines five steps to powering up the excitement that will lead you to your passion. Watch the video below to learn what those five steps are. “We must overcome the notion that we must be regular, it robs you of the chance to be extraordinary and leads you to the mediocre.” - Uta Hagen

“It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.” - Saint Francis of Assisi
What are your actions saying about what is in your heart? How many of you have heard about The Monroe Doctrine? I'm not talking about the doctrine, detailed by President James Monroe in 1823, that stated any European nation that attempted to intervene in American political affairs would be considered hostile. I'm talking about the leadership philosophy outlined by 30-year New York educator, Dr. Lorraine Monroe, in her book, Nothing Impossible. According to an article from the Creighton University Grad School Blog (03/16/2022), every leader should have a personal leadership philosophy (PLP). A PLP defines who the leader is, what their leadership philosophy is about, and what subordinates can expect from them as a leader. A PLP is a reflective explanation of a leader's core values, attitudes, and life experiences that guide their leadership beliefs. Watch the video below to learn about eleven leadership rules that Dr. Monroe outlined in her book. Also, please leave me a comment about whether or not you have a personal leadership philosophy (PLP), and if you do, what things do you expect from yourself or look for in others, that demonstrate leadership qualities? “Concern should drive us into action and not into a depression. No man is free who cannot control himself.” - Pythagoras
