I once believed that motivation alone was sufficient for success. Over time, however, I came to realize that motivation—while essential—is not enough on its own.
To achieve meaningful goals, two additional elements are required: discipline and strong habits. Motivation, discipline, and good habits function much like a three-legged stool. Each leg is necessary for stability. Remove one, and the stool becomes unbalanced and unable to support you. For instance, being motivated and disciplined but maintaining poor habits makes sustained success difficult. Likewise, having discipline and good habits without the motivation to apply them limits productivity and progress. Throughout my basketball career, my experiences as a podcast guest, and the process of writing my books, I have consistently seen how aligning motivation, discipline, and strong habits creates effectiveness and momentum. You can explore this concept further by reading the second Truth in my book, Four Truths and a Lie. Copies are available here: www.amazon.com/dp/B0FPMG37DF
