What is your job?
What is the purpose we were put on this planet to do? Leroy Percy writes, "A man's job is to make the world a better place to live in, so far as he is able - always remembering the results will be infinitesimal - and to attend to his own soul." Mother Teresa followed that up with, "God never asked us to be successful, He asked us to be faithful." Having meaning in your life will keep you on the road to well-being. Research shows that having a purpose will lead to better health, a longer life, and financial security. If you don't already have your purpose in mind, here are a few ways to go about finding your purpose: 1. Determine what is important in your life - Applying your unique skills and talents to something you believe in, is the first step to finding your purpose. 2. Determine your unique gifts and talents - You can determine your talents by asking your friends and mentors what they believe you're good at doing. You can also think about the things that bring you happiness when you do them. There are also surveys you can take online to help determine what you are good at. 3. Experiment with things that interest you - Especially when you are young, try anything and everything that appeals to you. Get involved with groups or organizations that you believe will be engaging. 4. Look for people who will invest in you - Throughout your life, it will be more important who you associate and work with and for than it will be the work you do. Connect with people who will invest in your development and climb the mountain with them. Wanting to achieve fame, fortune, and influence will most likely not lead you to fulfillment or purpose. Your job in this world will only come by knowing yourself and using your unique gifts and talents in service to others. Please leave me a comment about your thoughts on how to find your job (purpose) in this world.
