How often do you obtain perfection?
That's a rhetorical question since we all know nobody is perfect. Nothing is perfect. There's not a perfect job, perfect person, or perfect relationship. Everything has its flaws. But sometimes the need to make sure everything is perfect before we act, prevents us from even starting something new. American author and speaker Joyce Meyer commented, "Don't wait for everything to be perfect before you decide to enjoy your life." Sara Blakely, the founder of the women's undergarment company, Spanx, details how when she started her company, she had one prototype and $5000 cash. She had been a door-to-door fax salesperson prior to starting Spanx. She once commented that if she had waited until everything was perfect to start her multi-million dollar company, she is certain someone else would have beaten her to the punch. One of the best speeches on the topic of perfection comes from Coach Gaines (played by the actor, Billy Bob Thornton) in the movie Friday Night Lights. Here are a few highlights as Coach Gaines addresses his football team at halftime: "To me being perfect isn't about that scoreboard out there. It's not about winning. It's about you and your relationship to yourself, and your family and your friends." "Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didn't let them down, because you told them the truth. And that truth is that you did everything that you could. There wasn't one more thing you could've done. "Can you live in that moment, as best you can, with clear eyes and love in your heart? With joy in your heart. If you can do that gentlemen, then you're perfect. Being perfect, whether it's in business, sports, or our everyday relationships, has nothing to do with never making a mistake. Being perfect is about loving something or someone so much, that you give everything you have to ensure that thing or person, is the best it can be. If you can look in the mirror at the end of the day and know you did that, then you're perfect. Please leave me your thoughts on what it means to be perfect.
