What is the difference between work and play?
Work is simply any mental or physical activity done to achieve a result. Play is defined as any activity designed for enjoyment and recreation. Can your work be playful? Can your play be done to achieve a result? The answer to both questions is Yes. But we know when something is work or play. The comedian, Ron Pearson might be an individual who could blur the lines between effort and leisure. But this is how he described work and play in terms of a fulfilled life: (the quote is originally attributed to Lawrence Pearsall Jacks in his 1932 book, Education Through Recreation) "The master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play. His labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing and leaves others to determine if he is working or playing. To himself, he is always doing both." Mastering your life means putting things into perspective so you can obtain the purpose you were meant to live. By doing this you don't differentiate between work or play, mind or body, love or faith. Everything you do is integrated so you have the best chance of finding and living the purpose you were put here to do. By living this way, you make no distinctions regarding how you spend your time. Everything you do coalesces around existing in the moment so that whatever activity you are engaged in is integrated into the living experience. Leave me a comment about your thoughts regarding integrating your work and your play to experience your life. Your ideas and opinions are valuable, and I appreciate hearing them.
