How humble are you in your day-to-day interactions?
Humility is prioritizing the needs and wants of others over your own needs and wants. However, many people view humility as a weakness when, in fact, it is a power. It's a strength of character that enables you to recognize your gifts, acknowledge your limitations, and appreciate the experiences and knowledge of others. In a spiritual sense, humility helps us recognize that there is an entity greater than us and assists us in appreciating our place in the divine plan. The Stoic philosophers believed that humility was a moral virtue and defined it as a wisdom that we don't have all the answers. Given the explosion of narcissism in society (narcissistic personality disorder is nearly three times as high for people in their twenties as for the generations that are sixty-five and older, according to National Institutes of Health statistics), humility is experiencing a resurgence in our culture. According to an online article in Simplicable written by John Spacey (August 27, 2025), here are seven key points of humility: 1. Humility recognizes things beyond your control - At the root of humility is the understanding of your authentic reality. Humility adopts a mindset that allows a person to see the bigger picture and not be guided by the "all or nothing" mentality. 2. Humility is pragmatic - Being pragmatic about your worldview helps with balancing your outlook. You understand that there are things outside your control, and you can only act upon things within your control. 3. Humility recognizes the role others play - Humility helps you to realize that your success involves the impact others had on your life, that the world doesn't revolve around you. Any success you experience in life is a result of the influence and powers of others. 4. Humility is open - Humility allows you to expand your horizons and knowledge without keeping yourself closed off to new experiences. 5. Humility is authentic - Humility allows you to take a deep dive into your strengths and weaknesses, so you know where you need to improve. This understanding will make you authentic, rather than someone who thinks they know everything or has all the answers. 6. Humility is thankful - By understanding that you don't know everything, and, even so, many things turned out in your favor, you become grateful. This mindset allows you to appreciate those who helped you along your journey. 7. Humility is formidable - Being humble allows you to enjoy the grind by focusing on the fact that you can always get better and improve. Humility prevents you from becoming stagnant. You constantly want to grow and innovate. Humility generally makes you appreciate what you have and are good at, while providing the understanding that there are always areas for improvement. It makes you kinder, more empathetic, willing to improve, more open to change, grounded in faith, and more authentic. It allows you to remain more centered when you experience the ups and downs life throws your way. Please leave me a comment about your thoughts on the importance of being humble. Your thoughts and perspectives are valuable, and I'd enjoy hearing from you.
