What are the top seven things you keep top of mind each day?
Here are seven things I try to remember when starting my morning: 1. Don't covet your neighbor's good (I realize this is the 10th Commandment) - People tend to want things that their "neighbor" has simply because their neighbor possesses them. It's fine to want things in life, just make sure you want them because they are of interest to you, not because someone else has them. 2. Love who is looking back at you in the mirror - Love means willing the good of the other. It's easy to give of ourselves to others, it's much harder to give to yourself. Make sure you will the good of yourself, as well as the good of others. 3. Remain curious - According to Harvard psychologist, Paul Harris, children between 2 and 5 years of age ask about 40,000 questions. During that time they shift from asking fact-based questions to asking questions that seek explanations. Be more like a child as you become an adult. 4. Don't set limits - A writer I know made himself write 2000 words a day when working on the first draft of a book. While it was a stretch, he finished the first draft in 3 months. In his second book, he challenged himself to write 2500 words each day, and he accomplished that as well. Resist the urge to set arbitrary limits on what you can accomplish. 5. Learn the lessons - The road to success is paved with failure. However, a person isn't a failure unless they fail to learn the lesson life was teaching. We all make mistakes, but not all of us learn the lessons from those mistakes. 6. Get out of your way - Many of our thoughts are negative, designed to keep us safe. However, you don't grow, improve, and learn in safety. Don't allow your mind or your mindset to limit how far you can go on your journey. 7. Choose your companions wisely - It's more important in life who you work with and for than it is the work you do. Choose to associate with people who care about you, will invest in you, and want to see you succeed. Hitch your wagon to them and climb the mountains together. Leave me a comment about the things you keep top of mind in your life each day.
