Love, Meaning, and Memories

In the year it took me to go through the hiring process as a police officer with the City of Cincinnati, I was a stay-at-home dad to our newborn daughter.

Every day, my wife went to work, and I got the privilege of staying home and dealing with poopy diapers, colicky crying spells, and projectile vomiting.

I was also fortunate to have our daughter fall asleep in my arms more times than I can count; struggle to pull herself up using an ottoman to stand for the first time; and utter her first word, "dada".

​While some people may not think this role is something a man should do, I can say without a doubt that the year of caring for our daughter was the greatest year of my life. It wasn't glamorous, stimulating, or thrilling. But it was packed with bonding, an emotional connection. It was the spark that ignited the love, meaning, and memories that have grown daily in my life and in our daughter's.
